Debunking the Myth: Midwives are Undereducated

Meet Jeanne

Jeanne became certified as a Bradley Instructor in 1977, began attending births and immediately became part of the then-underground home birthing movement following dissatisfaction with care after the hospital birth of her oldest daughter. Offering not only education but support for women’s choices in childbirth; she caught her first baby in 1980.

With the whole-hearted support and encouragement of her family, Jeanne enrolled in the National College of Midwifery, a MEAC approved program, and upon graduation, became a California Licensed Midwife as well as a Certified Professional Midwife with the North American Registry of Midwives.

In addition to Whole-Hearts Midwifery, Jeanne has worked in a busy birth center in the Inland Empire, and spent time doing births among the plain families of south-central Pennsylvania. She taught natural childbirth in Russia to both expecting women as well as obstetricians, and aided in opening the first Pregnancy Crisis Center in Moscow, Russia. She also helped open the Conejo Pregnancy Center, works there as a volunteer, and serves on the Board of Directors.

Jeanne loves learning new things and keeping up on the latest practices in Midwifery. She has taken workshops from Ina May Gaskin, Gail Tully, Anne Frye, Penny Simpkin, Naoli Vinaver-Lopez, and Michel Odent, as well as many others. Jeanne and her husband have four adult children, three born at home. Watching her own children now choose midwifery care for their births is a special joy.
